Spar Magyarország Revenue Climbs Close to 16% in 2023

Gross revenue of supermarket chain Spar Magyarország rose 15.8% to HUF 1.023 trillion last year, chairman-CEO Gabriella Heiszler said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Sales volume slipped around 4%, Heiszler said.

Spar Magyarország finished the year with a loss, on about the same scale as the one in 2022, because of close to HUF 30 bln it paid in extraordinary tax, she added.

The company had 641 shops at the end of 2023, including 273 franchises. The headcount stood around 14,000, and an additional 4,000 people worked at franchises.

CAPEX reached HUF 22 bln in 2023.
